  1. It’s 1/2 cup of masoor dal (red lentils), soaked for 30 minutes.
  2. It’s 1 tbsp of oil.
  3. Prepare 1 tsp of mustard seeds.

  5. It’s 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds.
  6. It’s 1 of dried red chilli, broken.
  7. Prepare 1 tsp of urad dal (split black gram).
  8. You need to taste of salt.

  10. You need 1 sprig of curry leaves.
  11. It’s 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.
  12. Prepare 2 tbsp of coriander leaves, chopped.
  13. You need 1 tsp of ghee.

The traditional Dal Tadka Recipe is a preparation made from a variety of different lentils and a lot of spices making it a favourite accompaniment with Rice or Rotis/Naan etc. Masoor dal is not a regular lentil in my kitchen but when I do prepare it, this dal is much loved and relished by all at home.   1. Pressure cook the soaked lentils in 1 & 1/2 cups water for 4-5 whistles. Whisk well and Keep aside..
  2. Heat oil in a pan and temper with red chilli, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and fenugreek seeds. Allow it to splutter..
  3. Add the curry leaves, urad dal, asafoetida and turmeric powder. Saute for a few seconds..
  4. Then add the boiled dal and salt to taste..
  5. Mix well and simmer on a low flame for 2-3 minutes. When done, add coriander leaves and ghee and give it a stir..
  6. Serve hot with either rice or chapattis..
