Ingredients of Cabbage Dal

  1. You need 1/2 cup of tuvar dal (pigeon pea lentil), soaked for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare 1 cup of cabbage, chopped.
  3. You need 2 tbsp. of oil.
  4. Prepare 1 tsp. of cumin seeds.
  5. Prepare 1/4 tsp. of asafoetida.
  6. Prepare 1 of onion, chopped.
  7. You need 1-2 of green chilies, chopped.
  8. Prepare 1 tsp. of ginger-garlic paste.
  9. You need 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder.
  10. You need 1/2 tsp. of red chilli powder.
  11. It’s 1 tsp. of coriander powder.
  12. It’s 1/2 tsp. of cumin powder.

Cabbage Dal step by step

  1. Pressure cook the tuvar dal and chopped cabbage along with 1 & 1/2 cups water and a pinch of turmeric powder for 4-5 whistles. Keep aside..
  2. Heat oil in a pan and temper with cumin seeds & asafoetida. Saute for a few seconds..
  3. Then add the onion and green chilies. Stir fry till light brown,.
  4. Add the ginger-garlic paste and all the dry spices & give it a stir..
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and continue to saute till it is nicely mashed..
  6. Add the boiled dal and simmer on a low flame for 1-2 minutes,.
  7. Add the garlic chutney and coriander leaves & switch off the flame..
  8. When done add the ghee and give it a stir..
  9. Serve with any form of rice preparation or Indian bread for a wholesome meal..
